In conceiving the "Guixu" series, we understand that the term "Guixu," rooted in ancient mythology and philosophy, symbolizes the ultimate destination and origin of all things—a cosmic worldview embodying cyclical renewal and endless vitality. By integrating this concept into his paintings, He Weigang seems to be exploring, through artistic creation, the profound connections between humanity and nature, as well as between history and the future.
The works in the "Guixu" series present a state where chaos and order coexist—reminiscent of the primordial forces of the universe’s birth intertwining with the gradual formation of natural laws. The seemingly disordered brushstrokes and flowing ink, along with compositions dominated by black and sparse white, actually reflect the artist’s deep contemplation on the origins, evolution, and demise of life. They seem to guide viewers back to the very source of time, prompting a reexamination of their place and significance within the vast cosmos. This may well be the true essence of the Guixu prophecy: that the deepest darkness always harbors the first ray of light transcending dimensions.
